Quick instruction to build ordinary model

Today, we will show you how to build simple ordinary model, very easy and very quick.

Prepare

0.    First of all, make sure that all the cardboard are here and nothing is missing.

1.    Read the instruction to have a general idea how to build the model.

2.    Now, prepare all the tools necessary for the project, clean them and your hand before you start.

Tip: it is easier to hold the entire paper than a tiny piece when you cut with knifes

3.    First use marking pen or other thin tools to scratch the line on the paper model which we will fold. This will help us to fold easily and uniformly.

Cut  

4.    If there is any hole are in the middle of a piece that need to empty, make it now with knife

5.    Use pen knife or art knife, for cutting long straight line

6.    Cut rest of the edges with scissors

7.    Fold all the necessary line of a piece and assemble the piece without glue to make sure everything fits

Paste

8.    Put a small amount of white glue on the paste surface

9.    Use a toothpick to smooth the glue over the entire paste surface; the thinner, the better.

10. Assemble the piece, use forceps to consolidate if necessary.

Tip: for perfectionism, you can use markers or color pens to fill the blank cutting line

Repeat step 4 to 10 for all the necessary pieces and make the final assemble:

Tools needed to construct PaperCraft

Paper model is one of the easiest models to construct, to start; all we need are a knife, a pair of scissors and a bottle of whit glue. However, if you want to accelerate your working speed, reduce your effort or increase the quality of your work, you will need some of the tools motioned here:

Cutting tools:

Cutting blade: easy to find, sharp, and inexpensive. However, the blade is too thin and it is hard to manage and it makes your hand tired very quickly, so it is not a great cutting tool for long-time work.

Art knife: the head of the burin are usually 30 degrees. It is better for precision cuttings.

Scissors: usually for large scale cutting and cut edge curve. A pair of big scissors and a pair of small scissors are a great combination.

Ruler: combine with knife to cut straight line, metal is better than plastic, last for longer.

Dedicate cutting mat: one of the most important tool for professional paper model constructors. It is made specially to protect your knife which will last 5 times longer than cutting on ordinary board. Moreover, the cutting marks will automatically recover as long as you do not remove the rubber layer completely.

 

Marking Pen: after you cut the price from the cardboard, you will need to use the marking pen to scratch on the folding line. So you can fold the piece properly. However, marking pen is not the only tool to scratch the line, something thin and smooth will also be good like this:

Glue:

Water glue: easy to find and inexpensive, but can easily damage the cardboard, and takes a long time to dry.

White glue: the most common glue used for paper model, easy to apply, turned to transparent when dried.

Alcohol get: great glue to paste a large area. Do not contain water and will not damage the paper.

Instantaneous drying glue: take 3 second to dry, huge penetration which makes it a double-edge sword, it is an excellent tool to paste fine piece and reinforce the structure.

Toothpick: a good tool to apply glue on the paper, very cheap tooJ. By the way, it is forbidden to put glue directly on the paper piece.

Forceps: use to hold small piece

Clip: use to hold just pasted piece

Colorful mark pen: when a piece is cut, it will remain a white edge; mark pen can color that edge and make the model more realistic.

Spray adhesive: use to solidify after the paper model was done to help the model last longer and have a shiny outside.

Availability and acquisition of papercraft

What is Paper Model?

Wikipedia describes paper model as follow:

Paper models, also called card models or papercraft, are models constructed mainly from sheets of heavy paper, paperboard, or card stock.

Details:

Card modeling is making scale models from sheets of cardstock, on which the parts were printed, usually in full color. These pieces would be cut out, folded, scored and glued together. They are generally more popular in Europe and Japan than in the United States.

Sometimes the model pieces can be punched out. More frequently the printed parts must be cut out. Edges may be scored to aid folding. The parts are usually glued together with polyvinyl acetate glue (“white glue” “PVA”). In this kind of modeling the sections are usually pre-painted, so there is no need to paint the model after completion. Some enthusiasts may enhance the model by painting and detailing. Due to the nature of the paper medium, the model may be sealed with varnish to last longer.
